Recovery phrase
A nine-word phrase gets you back in if you forget your pattern. We never see it, so we can’t recover a vault for you.
What the recovery phrase is
When you create a vault, VaultMaster shows you nine words. They open a second small file that holds the same vault key, so the words can get you back in if you forget your pattern.
At 99 bits, the phrase is too long to guess, even with a copy of your files.
Keeping it safe
Write the words down and keep them somewhere safe and separate from your phone. Anyone with the phrase can open your vault, and without it, a forgotten pattern can’t be fixed.
What it can’t do
We’d rather tell you plainly than have you find out later.
- We never have your keys, so if you lose both your pattern and your recovery phrase, your vault can’t be recovered by anyone. That’s deliberate.

- Can VaultMaster recover my vault if I lose everything?
- No. We never receive your pattern, your phrase or your keys, so there’s nothing for us to recover from.
- How do I use my recovery phrase?
- On the unlock screen tap “Forgot your pattern?”, enter the nine words, then choose a new pattern.
