About My Chapters

My Chapters helps foster carers write the letter their agency asks for each week or month: a warm, illustrated letter to the child in their care, in the carer’s own words, with photos. Ideas suited to the child’s age sit beside the page, and gentle prompts help you describe what happened rather than reach for labels.

Send each letter to the child’s social worker from your own email, already addressed, with their reference number in the subject so it’s filed in the right place. Letters are numbered from the day the child arrived, signed and dated.

Over time, the letters bind into a book for the child’s life story: a cover with their photo, chapters by month or by age, and, when they move on, an ending letter written with guidance for every kind of move, from adoption to going home to a placement that didn’t work out.

Everything is encrypted on your iPhone. There are no accounts, no servers and no tracking, and nothing you write is ever sent to us.

Questions

Who is My Chapters for?
Foster carers who write a regular letter to the child in their care, usually because their fostering agency or local authority asks for one each week or month. Kinship carers and supported lodgings hosts can use it too.
What does a letter look like?
A one- or two-page illustrated letter to the child, in your words, with up to six captioned photos. You choose from eleven everyday designs, and birthdays and festivals get their own. Each letter is numbered, signed with your names or your family name, and dated.
How do letters reach the social worker?
Tap Send and your email opens with the letter attached as a PDF, already addressed to the people you’ve saved for that child. The subject says whose letter it is and which week or month it covers. You can use the child’s initial instead of their name if your service asks.
What is the reference number for?
Many services file letters against the child’s record in their case system, using a reference such as PER12345. Add it to the child’s details and it goes into the email subject and message, so admin staff know exactly where to file it. It’s optional.
What happens when a child moves on?
The app helps you write an ending letter. You choose the situation, whether that’s adoption or a permanent family, going home, a move after a placement didn’t work out, independence or a short stay, and the guidance and ideas change to fit. The ending letter closes their book and can be sent on its own.
Can I make a book of the letters?
Yes. Bind every letter, or a date range, into a PDF book with a cover, contents and chapters by month or by the child’s age. Every word on the cover can be changed. It prints well and fits in a life story book.
Where are the letters stored? Is it private?
Everything is encrypted on your iPhone. There’s no account, no server and no tracking, and nothing you write is sent to us. Letters only leave your phone when you send, share or back them up. You can lock the app with a passcode or Face ID.
What if I lose my phone?
Turn on automatic backup to save a password-protected backup to a folder you choose, such as iCloud Drive. Your iPhone’s own iCloud backup also carries the app’s data to a new phone.
How much does it cost?
Every new subscriber gets 14 days free. After that it’s £3.99 a month or £34.99 a year, and Family Sharing lets a partner use the same subscription. If you stop subscribing, everything you’ve written stays on your phone to read and export.
Does it replace my recording or reports?
No. My Chapters is for the letters written to the child. Daily recording, incidents and reports stay in your agency’s own systems.
Does it work on iPad, with Apple Pencil?
Yes. On iPad your children sit beside their letters, and you can add a handwritten page with Apple Pencil, or let the child add a drawing of their own.
